outstanding and imaginative Musician, Arranger, Composer and Trainer of the present generation, PRADIPTO SENGUPTA belongs to a musical family from Kolkata, West Bengal. His initial training on Mandolin started at an early age from Shri Shubhash Pal, a renowned artist of All India Radio, Kolkata. After his initial training, Pradipto started his advance training under the guidance of Shri Saroj Barua, a well-known Mandolinist in Kolkata. In the year 1982 he became a member of Kolkata Cine Musicians Association and started working with all leading Music Directors in Bengali Film Industry.
He is well-known for his purity and systematic development of his musical Instrument and has developed an unbeatable control over the Instrument along with his professional career both in Indian and Western Classical Music.
He shifted Mumbai (Maharashtra) in the year 1988 and became a life member of Mumbai Cine Musicians Association, Mumbai and started working as a studio musician. He met Saxophone Supremo Shri Manohari Singh who introduced him with Legendary music director RD Burman and he became an integral part of RD Burman's team. His first recording with RD Burman was on 29th January 1989 for the film Jeene Do. There after he started working with almost all leading music directors in Mumbai Film Industry like Laxmikant Pyarelal, Ravindra Jain, Jatin Lalit, Anand Milind, Nadeen Shravan, Illayaraja, Vidyasagar, Esmile Darbar, Himesh Reshammiya, Viju Sha, Uttam Singh, Ramlaxman, Preetam, Salim Suleman, Ajay Atul and many more. He played Mandolin in some Block Bluster Films such as Maine Payar Kiya, Parinda, Gurudev, Dost, Khiladi, DDLJ, Kuchch Kuchch Hota Hai, Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gam, Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, Bachna Ai Hasino, Kismat Konnection, Whats Your Rashi, Agnipath etc.
Pradipto is a Grade One Musician in All India Radio and Television.
He has performed several solo concerts (Idian music, world music, fusion,folk & western music) in India and abroad.
He composes Music and Background Score for Short Films/ Ballet/ Drama/TV Serials/AD Films.
Apart from his first love Mandolin, Pradipto also plays some other Instruments like Spanish Guitar, Mandola, Tenor Banjo, Rabab, Dotara (Folk Instrument from West Bengal), Ruan (Chinese Instrument), Pianica, Charango (Bolivian Instrument), Ukulele, Irish Bouzouki and many more.
Several memorable credits are there in his Musical Journey but he never forgets the day when he performed with great music director O P Nayyar on a live concert at Pune, and on the occasion of Maharashtra Day on 1st May, 2010 he performed with Bharatratna Lata Mangeshkar at BKC Mumbai, which was the best achievement in his life.
Pradipto arranges workshops for Basic and Intermediate students. Also he takes special classes for advance students.
